What’s in a name? Ask this question to parents and you will
get some of the funniest answers in the world. It’s too difficult to choose a unique name especially if a
baby is proverbial black sheep of the family. Sometimes it is inspired by our
mythological heritage and sometimes by the lead character of our beloved movie
or serial family drama. All family members including distant relatives
participate wholeheartedly to grab this noble opportunity and they are having
their hilarious reason to choose one. However, out of all these noble
suggestions, it is very difficult to conclude a name that suits the characteristics
of the baby. After all “name” is something that a baby carries all through his
lifetime.
The
ancient and traditional name has lost its charm in the current trend. Most
parents are interested in choosing a modern name that stand-apart their baby
from the rest of the world. Often it so happens that parents are unable to find
a suitable name in any of the related books and websites. But sometimes this
uniqueness drives them so crazy to select some weird name for which child has
to pay too dearly. It’s very difficult to spell and pronounce such a name - for
the baby as well as for the rest of the world. Thank God! The serial family
drama has taken the role of providing a trendy name in the society concurred by
our previous generations.
In
Indian society, we cannot forgo the importance of a horoscope. A methodology that
predicts someone’s future based on the relative position of the planets. It
resonates with a natural frequency of “name” which is strong enough to amplify the
baby’s characteristics. As per Hindu mythology, these predicted names based on
these planetary motions guarantee the happiness of a child. It may seem to be
superstitious, but we as parents weigh these supernatural powers because
somewhere deep down in our hearts we believe in their existence. Nobody can
ever quantify its impact on an individual’s life but whatever is the reason it provides
a helping hand in concluding a suitable name.
A
beautiful nickname derived from the actual name narrates a different story. And
to my amazement, rather unconvincing and unconstitutional, we as parents rarely
use the actual name in our normal conversation. Perhaps it is meant for society
to recognize a person. Parents don’t require this fuss to connect with their
babies. These names finally become a random password along with some special
characters. And the funniest part is - Unaware of all these superstitions,
mysteries, and dilemmas, the baby enjoys deep calm sleep.
